Crosswinds Akaushi are all descendants from the original group of Akaushi imported from Japan. Originally from the Emperor's herd, Akaushi are a specific breed of Wagyu Cattle. Akaushi beef is known for its naturally intense marbling, providing a tenderness, rich flavor and juiciness. To maintain the integrity of our herd, all of our cattle are "source verified" with DNA testing for each animal,
Our Akaushi are raised in large pastures grazing freely on natural forages. We never feed growth hormones or add antibiotics in their feed as a preventative measure. Our goal is to raise them as naturally and healthy as we can since this is on our families' and friends' tables. Several times a year we have Akaushi Beef available in whole, halves or quarters. The Akaushi that we offer in our beef program are raised in smaller pastures with plenty of room to roam and graze while also given free choice to natural forage hay, of which the majority is grown and raised here by us. Some of our beef is finished all on grass and some is fed an all plant base feed and protein to provide a well balanced grain finish depending on the customer preference.
Akaushi beef contains a higher concentration of monounsaturated fat relative to saturated fat, which the American Heart Association notes can lead to lower cholesterol, the prevention of coronary heart disease, and weight loss. It is a significant source of oleic acid – the compound in olive oil that the USDA touts as “good for the heart”.
We sell Akaushi Beef by the whole, half or quarter of beef. Local pickup only. We price our beef by the hanging weight of your beef and the price varies according to the market. Customers pay for their percentage of the processing. Processing is done by a local processor and paper wrapped or vacuum sealed. We have our standard cut and packaging and are happy to share the details upon request. On a half or whole beef order you can customize your own cuts.
